The National Socialist German Workers’ Party was known as the Nazi Party. The German Workers’ Party was founded in 1919 as a group that promoted German pride, discrimination against the Jews, expressed dissatisfaction against the Treaty of Versailles and the peace settlement that ended WWI. Hitler was a founding member and became leader of the Nazi Party in 1921. In 1933 Hitler became chancellor of Germany and his Nazi government soon took control of every aspect of German life.
